This is a wonderful all-purpose salve, intended to care for minor burns, muscle aches, itchy/dry skin, and support wound healing. Nourishing and restorative, it's a truly versatile salve you want to keep nearby. It's lovely to massage tired feet and hands with.
Yarrow is one of the main plant friends in this creation. This beauty has a long (and I mean looooong) history of use by humans. It was found among other medicinal herbs in a Neanderthal burial site dated around 60,000 BCE in Iraq. Considered a protective plant, Yarrow has many cultural and medicinal uses including preventing infection and healing wounds. I gather this plant every summer.
The St John’s Wort flower and Calendula flower in this salve bloomed in our garden in June. St John's Wort has been used for centuries as a potent herb for nerve pain, inflammation, and general body pain. I also added Poplar Bud oil, with Poplar Buds I gathered with a dear friend and my daugther in late winter. The buds contain a fragrant (and sticky!) resin that is a potent anti-inflammatory and helps warm and soothe painful joints and muscles.
