We present to you Hildegard's Herbal Bitters. Starring Dandelion root, with Elecampane root from our garden, Artichoke leaf, Fennel seeds, and Cardamom in supporting roles.
Dandelions are often misunderstood...what's wrong with a lawn full of Dandelions? They're beautiful in my opinion. Besides, Dandelions are extremely tenacious and will thrive, try as you might to eradicate them. These plants are super nutritious (leaf, root, and flower are edible) and the root is considered a classic liver tonic + its bitterness supports our digestion.
Including digestive bitters in your daily routine can go a long way in supporting your digestion and overall wellbeing. They've been around for a long time. This is an oversimplification, but in short, the bitter compounds stimulate your taste buds which send multiple signals to wake up your digestive tract.
It's recommended to take bitters shortly before or after a meal; they're best taken directly on the tongue. Drop one dropper (about ¼ tsp) of bitters onto your tongue and hold them in your mouth for about 10-15 seconds, until you start to salivate. You can also take bitters with some water, but note that this dilutes the bitter flavor.
